Mark Ferry was first bitten by the auction bug at the tender age of eight, when he attended a sale with his mother, who operated an antique shop at the time.  There was something about the auctioneer's cadence that just mesmerized the young boy from Whitney.  He's had auction fever ever since.  Mark's been calling sales on his own now for over 20 years.
His philosophy is three-fold; Help customers organize their possessions or assets, publicize the sale heavily, and bring top dollar for it by generating enthusiasm among bidders in the crowd.
"My job when a person's looking at what took 50 years to accumulate is to figure out how to best disburse it," he says.  Even so, a good auctioneer must also be sensitive to his client's feelings.  "You try to be the last testament to their life's work," Mark says.  "You try to do it with as much respect as you can.  We're not there to push possessions into piles and get rid of them."

Not surprisingly, Randy Betton was also enchanted by the auctioneer's song, as a young Ligonier lad attending sales with his grandfather.  Eventually, he attended the Pennsylvania School of Auctioneering, and signed up for correspondence courses offered by  Penn State University.
Randy earned his license in 1980, and teamed up with Mark two years later.  His favorite auctions are estate sales, as much as a variety of items likely to come down through a family as the occasional gems that show up.  One piece that stands out in his mind is a 19th century yellow sewing box decorated with flowers.  He sold the item for $2,000 at a small, country sale near Norvelt, Pa.

Antique furniture, silver, toys and other household goods

Mark Ferry Auctioneers has sold antiques and collectibles ranging from Soap Hollow and Chippendale blanket chests to Sarouk oriental rugs and Tiffany silver.  Most brought prices above and beyond their owners' wildest dreams due to the competitive battles auctions generate, whether the buyers was dealers or collectors.
Our experienced crew comes into your home, sorts and catalogs items, and even removes refuse if necessary.  We also advertise in the largest national trade publications.

Industrial, commercial and farm equipment.

Our expertise in bringing top dollar for your property doesn't stop in the home.  We can also attract commercial and industrial buyers eager to snap up your plant's equipment.
Have bulldozers, backhoes, or other heavy machinery to sell?  Put our two decades of auction experience to work for you.  And if it's farm equipment you're selling, we can handle that, too.  Tractors, combines, milking machines, and tillage equipment all find willing buyers with us calling the sale.

Residential, commercial, and real estate.

Compare our record against anyone else in the business:  We sold four of five properties listed with us including a 90-acre farm in Derry Township.
And remember, the hammer doesn't come down until you, the owner, are satisfied with the highest bid.

Benefits sales.

Over the years, we've conducted auction sales for various community and civic organizations, donating our time to help other.
