There was something about the auctioneer's cadence that just mesmerized the young boy from Whitney. He's had auction fever ever since. Mark's been calling sales on his own now for over 20 years. His philosophy is three-fold; Help customers organize their possessions or assets, publicize the sale heavily, and bring top dollar for it by generating enthusiasm among bidders in the crowd. "My job when a person's looking at what took 50 years to accumulate is to figure out how to best disburse it," he says. Even so, a good auctioneer must also be sensitive to his client's feelings. "You try to be the last testament to their life's work," Mark says. "You try to do it with as much respect as you can. We're not there to push possessions into piles and get rid of them." |
